Semi-permanent makeup offers a more natural and realistic alternative to traditional 'tattoo' brows. While there are similarities with tattoo methods, there are key differences. semi-permanent makeup is applied to the dermis layer of the skin, ensuring that pigment is placed on a more superficial, surface layer compared to tattoo methods. This means that over time, semi-permanent makeup will gradually fade into the skin, unlike tattoos which remain permanent.
The pigment used in semi-permanent makeup is specifically designed to fade gradually into the skin. Top-ups are recommended every 12-18 months, depending on factors such as skin type, lifestyle, and aftercare. These top-ups, also known as colour boosts, ensure that the brows maintain a fresh and crisp appearance.
Working on a superficial layer of the skin allows for a wide range of styles to be achieved. From hyper-realistic, incredibly natural detailed hair strokes to a full powdered effect for those desiring a fuller eyebrow look, semi-permanent makeup caters to various preferences. It is tailored to create the most natural-looking effect for each individual client, utilising the unique contours of their face to achieve results that complement their natural features.
The duration of your permanent makeup's longevity hinges on several factors unique to each individual, including skin type, lifestyle, retention, and aftercare practices. Particularly, the longevity of your brows is heavily influenced by your skin type. It's important to note that individuals with oilier skin types may experience less effective pigment retention, potentially leading to the blurring of crisp hair strokes over time.
Moreover, sun exposure and the use of sunbeds significantly impact the lifespan of your brows and the vibrancy of the colour. Applying a high SPF once healed is crucial for optimal results, as it helps protect the pigment. Additionally, when using sunbeds, I strongly advise covering your eyebrows with a face towel to safeguard them against potential damage.
